I didn't pay much attention to this film when it was released but after its big Oscar haul, I figured it must be worth checking out.
I kept waiting for the story to start. It never did.
I hope they paid Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron well.

This is not me. (Or Frank Zappa)
Parodies of established musical styles plus some cutting edge -- for 1966 -- use of synths, electronics, and distortion were probably interesting at one time. The sound might have even been worth a listen or two now. Unfortunately, the stupidity of the lyrics is timeless.
A painful endeavor.
Kudos to Smiths Grocery Store in Albuquerque. This is a great idea and a nice gesture.
While this post punk is relatively fun, I wouldn't say that it was worth digging through the archives for another listen. Stay in the today unless you need a soundtrack for a 1980 retro party. The rhythm tracks do deserve an honorable mention though.
The link should you want to DJ that party.
A night like this very often would kill me, but it was cool rockin' for an evening.
Interesting. The last album I listened to was ZZ Top's Tres Hombres. Both albums were produced at around the same time but ZZ Top with Texas roots, Alex Harvey in the UK. The sound and themes could almost be interchangeable. I could easily see most of Harvey's songs belonging to ZZ Top and vice versa. Excellent blues rock. It's when the Sensational Alex Harvey Band moves on to glam or "heavier" rock that they start to be less enjoyable.
They are just so good at what they do Billy Gibbons' guitar work is always "just right" while Dusty Hill and Frank Beard create a tight driving rhythm. And they're still doing it 40+ years later!
The songs are memorable and singable. If you'd like to sing along, here's the link on Spotify.

“You are given the power to kill people simply by thinking of their deaths and twice repeating the word “good-bye.” People would die a natural death and no one would suspect you. Are there any situations in which you would use this power?”

Stark, angry delivery of well-written lyrics: I prefer her later more melodic sound.
“Which sex do you think has it easier in our culture? Have you ever wished you were of the opposite sex?”
The times they are achangin'.
Here comes a big generalization since American society is hardly consistent or homogeneous but we are less patriarchal than at any time in western civilization's recorded history. Women are entrepreneurs, CEOs, scientists, politicians, techies, creatives, warriors, mothers, partners, and wives.
Yes the times are achangin'.
It's easier to be a man. And I've never wanted to trade places.
